The Students’ Union represents university students and exists to support and entertain students during their time at York. If you are a student, you are already a member and can use your membership to join societies and clubs.
Through the Students’ Union, you can also buy tickets for student events, access advice and support, find society resources and use our venues for society events.
Joining a society or a club at university is a great way to meet new people with the same interests as you. This can involve joining a team sport, gathering for worship, or taking up a new hobby.
Running for a society committee allows you to take on new responsibilities and really showcase your leadership and teamwork skills, all while doing something you love!
The university chaplaincy offers space for community gatherings, worship, prayer, faith exploration and confidential support.
The chaplains can be contacted by students of all faiths and none. They encourage students to explore faith and ask the big questions with support from student faith communities. Our three chaplains are Fr Richard Duffield (Roman Catholic), Revd Dr John Schofield (Methodist) and Revd Dr Catherine E Reid (Anglican).
It’s really important to look after your mental health at university. The Open Door team is made up of professional mental health practitioners and student wellbeing officers from the university who can support students struggling with their mental health.
Open Door offer a space for supportive conversations in which you can share your problems and feelings with a professional. If you are having a tough time with your mental health at university, this support network is here for you.
