St Edward the Confessor: one of the great patrons of our country.

He holds the ring that he gave to a beggar. Six months before St Edward’s death, an English pilgrim was given the ring in the Holy Land by an old man, who told the pilgrim that he was St John the Evangelist, and that he and the King would meet in heaven soon.

Edward had vowed to visit Jerusalem himself, but when he became King, this was impossible.

In place of the pilgrimage he built Westminster Abbey, dedicated to St Peter - a reminder of England’s ancient loyalty to the Apostolic See.
